This is an online portfolio of all the art pieces that I have done over the years. These works consist of: paintings, photographs, and drawings, and some miscellaneous pieces. You can also learn a little about myself and take a look at my CV to see what I have been up to over the years.
The Artist: Andrea Palafox
I grew up in Ottawa, Ontario. When I was 19 yrs old and getting ready for university, I thought that I would stay in Ottawa. But I decided to attend the University of Toronto at Mississauga. In the summer of my 3rd year, I enrolled in the study abroad program and spent 5 weeks in Siena, Italy studying Tuscan architecture and urbanism.
When it comes to my art, I am most interested in taking my ideas further. With my paintings, I wish to give my older pieces a second chance by making it a feature in the new painting. As a result, the paintings are never truly finished for I can continue painting more and more layers.
My photographic interest lies mostly in the effects of light. I enjoy taking long exposures (sometimes lasting close to 24 hours) at night. By drawing out the exposure time, I am able to capture the movement of passing cars and sometimes even people!
Recently I have become interested in taking candid shots of people around town. It can get quite interesting when you catch people acting normally. The Tanabata Festival was celebrated on August 5-8, which was perfect for voyeuristic shots! Since everyone was taking pictures, it made it easier for me to take shots of the people and the environment around them.
As for my drawings, I mostly deal in black and white. The subjects are far more random than my paintings or photos. It's mostly for self-development; sharpening my skills in shading and sometimes experimenting with colour (with coloured pencils, pastels, etc) .
